Let’s get together!

By Craig Zellar

Syracuse Chapter President

I am very excited to serve as the Syracuse Chapter’s president for this upcoming fiscal year (June 1, 2023—May 31, 2024)! I have been involved with the Syracuse Chapter for many years serving as a director-at-large, secretary, treasurer and president-elect. I also have served on the statewide board of the NYSSCPA for the past four years. I want to thank Trevor Lehman, not only for his service as the president this past year (and the immediate past president this year) but for all of his past service to the chapter! Trevor’s commitment to the Syracuse Chapter and the NYSSCPA sets a great example for future leaders. I am very grateful for Trevor’s service and dedication!

I would like to also thank the following people for serving in the following leadership roles this upcoming year:

President-elect: Andrea Pagano (SUNY at Oswego)
Treasurer: Angela Janack (Dannible & McKee LLP)
Secretary: Katelyn Cook (Grossman St. Amour CPAs, PLLC)

The Syracuse Chapter has historically been an active chapter, but as with several chapters, the pandemic brought many events to a slow-grind or even a halt. One of the main benefits that I believe the NYSSCPA and our chapter provide is an opportunity to get involved and meet other professionals. Whether it is our kickball event (to benefit the Moynihan Scholarship Foundation), a sporting event (Syracuse Mets and Syracuse Crunch), the Ethics or Tax Conference CPE events, or outreach events at local high schools and colleges, there will be many opportunities this coming year to meet and interact with other professionals and grow your network! We are also planning to host a Legislative Breakfast and an in-person Professional Issues Update meeting, as we have done in prior years. Also, our chapter is always looking for opportunities to give back to our community by volunteering with various charitable endeavors including the Samaritan Center, Elmcrest Children’s Center and the Salvation Army.

Membership in the NYSSCPA and the Syracuse chapter is open to any person who wants to contribute to the success of the accounting profession, from seasoned professionals in public accounting and in industry to retired professionals to recent graduates from college to high school students and to anyone involved in the world of academia.

In conclusion, it is my privilege and honor to serve as the Syracuse Chapter’s president this upcoming year. My goal is to grow our chapter during my presidency, whether it be increasing the number of opportunities for members to interact or growing the numbers of members themselves. I look forward to meeting you at one of our chapter events this coming year! If you would like to get involved in our chapter, please feel free to reach out to me at the address below.

The presiding President of the Syracuse Chapter is Craig Zellar.
Chartered May 10, 1934, this chapter encompasses the following counties:
Cayuga, Cortland, Jefferson, Lewis, Madison, Oneida, Onondaga, Oswego, Schuyler and Tompkins
