Suffolk Chapter offers many rewards to those who become active members

By JOHN M. SPATOLA

Suffolk Chapter President

I am proud and honored to be installed at the 51st president of the Suffolk Chapter. As a chapter, we plan on moving forward this year with more in-person events to get professionals together again—not just to learn technical topics, but also to network with our peers.

My journey to president was one started approximately a decade ago, when my firm was informed by the Suffolk Chapter newsletter that the chapter’s Forensic and Valuation Committee was becoming active again. I immediately got involved and spent many years on that committee before I was asked to co-chair it. Through co-chairing the committee—planning many technical/social events and speaking for various chapter committees—I became visible to the great people in our chapter and, eventually, was asked to serve as a board member. I shortly thereafter became an officer of the chapter, and now have the honor of serving as its president.

Throughout my journey, I have met many professionals with whom I have forged wonderful friendships and relationships. My journey is not unlike those of many of the great people in our chapter and is an example of how rewarding the NYSSCPA can be to those who get involved. Whether you’re interested in technical topics such as forensics, valuation, taxation, audit and employee benefits, or social events, there is a committee that can interest everyone. I encourage chapter members to get involved and join one of our excellent chapter committees to begin their own journey. As a famous philosopher once said, a journey of a million miles begins with just one step.

If I can be of any assistance, please don’t hesitate to contact me at the address below. I look forward to serving you all and to a terrific year.
