I am so happy to officially be the president of the Rochester Chapter of the NYSSCPA! After moving from vice president to president-Elect over the past two years I have learned a lot— there is so much support and knowledge from our chapter board and other officers and members. I am very fortunate and excited to serve our Rochester Chapter as I move into the president role and look forward to the year ahead!

Member Appreciation Spotlight Rochester Chapter
Shayla Scott — Shayla’s contributions to the Rochester Chapter have been integral to the success of the chapter’s Career Opportunities in the Accounting Profession (COAP) program over the last few years. Shayla participated in the program as a high school student, and since the start of her professional career and membership in the Society and in the Rochester Chapter, Shayla has spearheaded the COAP program every year in the Rochester area. This year was a great success, and her dedication to encouraging students and future CPAs had a direct influence on her program, becoming a weekend, overnight program at a local college campus, after the pandemic had disrupted it.
Rochester Chapter Announces Recipients of Outstanding College Student Awards

The Outstanding College Student Award, a decades-old and prestigious award, is granted by the Education Committee of the Rochester Chapter of the NYSSCPA and is given to one outstanding student from each of seven upstate New York universities. The student must be graduating with one of the following degrees: M.S., MBA, B.A. or B.S. The graduate must also plan to be 150-hour compliant and meet the other requirements for licensing as a CPA in New York state.
Accounting faculty from each institution select their award recipients based on the following criteria:
- Completion of a curriculum qualifying students, or leading to qualification, for the CPA exam in New York State with a graduation date from the institution no later than August 31, 2024;
- A high grade point average;
- Outstanding communication skills;
- Demonstrated participation and leadership in extracurricular activities, including part-time employment; and
- Integrity and maturity.
There is one Excellence in Academic Achievement Award granted to each university. This year, the award winners are:
Olivia McDonald, of Rochester Institute of Technology, who will attend graduate school to pursue an MBA;
Emily Perechov, of Nazareth University, who has accepted a position in the tax department of the Bonadio Group in Rochester, NY;
Lingqian Lin, of the University of Rochester, who is planning to continue her education pursuing a PhD program;
Ryan Danielak, of SUNY Brockport, who will be interning at Insero & Co. CPAs, LLP again this summer while she will complete SUNY Brockport’s MSA program;
Adrianna Carfagna, of St. John Fisher University, who has accepted a position with PwC in Rochester, NY;
Josiane Dattilo, of SUNY Geneseo, who has accepted a position with EY in Rochester, NY; and
Dakota Podufalski-Worcester, of Alfred University, who has accepted a position with Insero & Co. CPAs, LLP in Ithaca, NY.
Congratulations to these outstanding students, who have exhibited excellent academic focus and a passion for the accounting profession!

 | Giovanni Greer (“Gio”), of Nazareth College, who has accepted an offer with The Bonadio Group;

 | Kyu Jin Kim, of the University of Rochester, who has accepted a position as an audit associate with Deloitte in Rochester, N.Y.;
|
 | Hannah Marafioti, of SUNY Geneseo, who has accepted a position with The Bonadio Group and is planning to study for the CPA exam prior to starting the job;
|
 | Ben Leach, of SUNY Brockport, who has accepted a position with DeJoy, Knauf & Blood LLP after graduation; and
|
 | Gillian Flint, of Alfred University, who has attended law school prior to a career as a tax accountant.
